At Sift, we’re accelerating the development of next-generation machines with the world’s first end-to-end telemetry stack — and we’re expanding our team.

Sift’s founders started this company to enable private and government entities to make enormous technological strides. Our focus is on creating a better world for tomorrow, and we’re making an impact with our highly specialized expertise.

By joining us, you’ll help shape future-focused data infrastructure that will power spacecraft, satellite constellations, renewable energy, autonomous transportation, and more.

We’ve observed first-hand how challenging it is to use software tools for hardware engineering. We are building an intuitive platform for non-technical users, such as manufacturing technicians on the shop floor, and technical users, such as embedded software engineers. We’ve valued design since the beginning, working with a designer on contract and hiring design-oriented front-end engineers.

Sift seeks a Senior Product Designer who is passionate about solving complex problems and building a fast-growing startup. You’ll work with our talented engineers and operators from SpaceX, Google, Palantir, and Amazon in this role.

About the Role

We seek an experienced Senior Product Designer to join our team as our first designer. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to help shape our platform's design vision and strategy from the ground up. You'll work closely with our engineers, GTM team, and executives to translate our ambitious vision into intuitive, user-centric solutions that delight our customers and drive business growth. You will report to our Co-Founder and CTO.

In This Role, You'll:

  • Lead the end-to-end design process, from concept ideation to final implementation, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience across all touchpoints.

  • Develop wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that effectively communicate design concepts and functionality.

  • Establish and maintain design systems and style guides to ensure consistency and scalability across the platform.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering to define product requirements, user stories, and design specifications and align design components with component libraries owned by the engineering team.

  • Collaborate closely with the GTM team on future features to communicate Sift’s vision and direction.

  • Spend time with customers alongside our engineers, conducting user research to deeply understand their requirements and intentionally consider how Sift’s technology fits into their ecosystem to create the best user experience.

  • Champion a user-centric design approach, advocating for the needs and preferences of our customers in all design decisions.

The Skillset You'll Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in product design, with a proven track record of delivering innovative and impactful design solutions.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing your design process, problem-solving abilities, and UX/UI design expertise.

  • Passion for solving complex problems with a strong background in taking complicated software and creating a simple user experience

  • Proficiency in design tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc., and prototyping tools like InVision or Framer.

  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, usability best practices, and interaction design fundamentals.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively articulate and defend design decisions to stakeholders.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment with limited resources is a plus, as well as a passion for building and iterating on products in a lean, agile manner.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field is preferred.

  • Background in B2B and data analytics is a plus.

Our Team:

We’re comprised of senior engineers and operators from SpaceX, Google, Palantir, and more. We believe that the best software is written by those close to the source of the problem. One of our founders, Karthik, was a Dragon flight software lead responsible for two Dragon missions to the ISS. His team used SpaceX’s end-to-end data platform before, during, and after every Dragon mission. Our other co-founder, Austin, was a lead on Starlink’s tools team, responsible for the platform that collected data from thousands of Starlink satellites for exploration and data review.

The Sift team is based in Los Angeles. We work closely with hardware companies, many of which are based in LA, building everything from autonomous vehicles to spacecraft. Being nearby for site visits and collaboration is essential for a customer-centric company. This role requires coming into the office two times a week, Mondays and Thursdays.
